The 67-year-old actor is the most recent addition to the stellar cast of Tim Burton’s forthcoming supernatural comedy sequel to the 1988 film.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dafoe will portray an afterlife law enforcement officer.
Michael Keaton reprises his role as the film’s eponymous specter, and Winona Ryder reprises her role as Lydia Deetz. The new film also features a mix of original and new cast members.
Jenna Ortega of ‘Wednesday’ has been cast as Lydia’s daughter, Monica Bellucci will portray Beetlejuice’s wife, and Justin Theroux will play an unspecified role.
The project is currently in production in the United Kingdom, with a September 2024 release date.
Willem Dafoe has joined ‘Beetlejuice 2’s’ cast.
The original film was a critical and commercial success and told the tale of two ghosts who enlist the aid of Beetlejuice to purge their home of its new inhabitants.
Danny Elfman, who will reunite with longtime collaborator Tim Burton on the ‘Beetlejuice’ sequel, recently stated that Michael “won’t look much different” as the character despite the passage of more than three decades since the release of the original film.
“I told Deadline, ‘He’s not going to look all that different,'” he said. This is the brilliance of the ‘Beetlejuice’ disguise. He already appeared to be 150 years old in the first photograph.
“Isn’t it ideal, do you know? Everyone else except Michael must play the next generation. He is still extremely healthy, extremely active, and extremely engaged.
“And with the ‘Beetlejuice’ makeup, I can’t imagine that he will appear to have changed significantly. So, I eagerly anticipate that.”
