Netflix has released the first trailer for Berlin, the spin-off series to Money Heist.
The announcement for the prequel to the acclaimed Spanish thriller-drama was made in 2021, with Pedro Alonso reprising his role as Andrés de Fonollosa, whose moniker is Berlin.
Since then, there have been few updates on the project, but as part of the TUDUM: Global Fan Event, the streaming service published a teaser trailer and confirmed that it would be released in December.
In addition to Alonso, Berlin will star Tristán Ulloa, Begoña Vargas, Michelle Jenner, Julio Peña Fernández and Joel Sánchez. The series will follow Alonso’s character in his “golden age as he attempts one of his most extraordinary heists.”
Netflix will begin streaming Berlin in December.
The logline for the series, which is created by lex Pina, reads: “Berlin claims that only love and a million-dollar paycheck can transform a terrible day into a good one. This maintains him laser-focused on his elevated objectives. Therefore, he is planning one of his most audacious robberies to date: the theft of $44 million worth of diamonds.
“But first, he’ll have to enlist the aid of some savvy criminals: Keila, a cybersecurity whiz; Damián, an academic and Berlin’s close friend; Cameron, a loose cannon who lives on the edge; Roi, a locksmith and Berlin’s loyal sidekick; and Bruce, who is a gadget and weapon whiz.”
Alonso, who appeared in every episode of Money Heist, remarked about the spin-off, “I’m so excited. I am incredibly grateful to be able to communicate with individuals from all over the world and to receive so much affection and have such a memorable experience. We began this series by stepping into the unknown, and have been victorious ever since. You followers are our accomplices, and for that we thank you.”
