The actor’s portrayal of Shakuni in BR Chopra’s iconic series Mahabharat gained him immense popularity. The actor will be cremated today (June 5) at 4 p.m. in Mumbai.
Gufi Paintal passes away at 79
According to reports, the actor was committed to a Mumbai hospital on May 31 for treatment of kidney and heart-related ailments. Gufi was being treated at the Andheri West Bellevue Multispecialty Hospital. Tina Ghai, a television actress, announced Paintal’s passing on social media, for those unaware.
She included a photo of the actor and wrote, “With tremendous grief and sorrow, we regret to announce that our dear Gufi Paintal Jee (Shakuni) has left for his heavenly abode.”
She has been imploring with her social media followers to intercede for the veteran actor’s health for several days.

Gufi Paintal, a veteran actor, has not only wowed audiences with his performing, but he has also directed television. Due to his portrayal of Shakuni in the historical drama Mahabharat, which broadcast in the late 1980s, he became a ubiquitous name.
