Jameela Jamil disclosed that she did not audition for You on Netflix because she did not wish to appear in any sexual sequences.
During a recent episode of the podcast Podcrushed, hosted by You actor Penn Badgley, the protagonist of The Good Place revealed why she now regrets not pursuing the audition.
“I don’t do love sequences. In fact, I was scheduled to audition for the most recent season of your show, which premiered in February,” Jameela told Penn, referring to the fourth season of the series.
The British actor explained that when she learned her “character was supposed to be quite sexy,” she “pulled out of the audition because I am so shy about anything sexy that I can’t”
The British actress afterwards said she “should have gone and done the f***ing show”.
She added that she would have participated in the audition if she had known it was possible to impose a “boundary” on the intimate sequences.
Jameela recalled Penn’s viral negotiation with the show’s creator, Sera Gamble, for fewer sex sequences: “And then you came out and were like, ‘Yeah, I’m not doing sex scenes anymore.'”
She continued, “And I was like, ‘I didn’t even know that was a line we could draw.'” But then I thought, “I should have done the f***ing show.”
Elsewhere in the interview, the She-Hulk: Attorney at Law star disclosed that, even when she is alone, she must “fast forward” through on-screen sex sequences.
“I can’t even view film sex sequences… Even when I’m alone, I have to fast-forward through sex sequences because I’m so uncomfortable witnessing other people engage in sexual activity.
During a February episode of Podcrushed, Penn revealed for the first time that, due to his marriage to vocalist Domino Kirke, he requested that the showrunner reduce the number of “intimacy scenes” on his show.
“Fidelity in every relationship, but especially in my marriage, is important to me,” the 36-year-old explained at the time. “I’ve reached a point where I no longer wish to do that.”
Penn hinted in March that the Netflix suspense series You, based on the novels of Caroline Kepnes, may return for a final season.
Netflix has not yet declared any renewal intentions for the murder drama.
