Sam Smith issued an apology to supporters after cutting short the latest concert of their Gloria world tour in Manchester after only four songs.
On Wednesday, the Unholy vocalist hinted at a new collaboration with Madonna, who introduced their Grammys performance earlier this year.
Shortly thereafter, they informed their Manchester fans that Unholy, which typically closes the set, “won’t be the last song” at the conclusion of the performance.
This is not exactly what transpired.
Sam reportedly departed the stage after performing four tracks and did not return, leaving fans somewhat perplexed.
After approximately 20 minutes, the audience was informed that Sam had decided not to continue performing due to “voice issues.”
Sam published an extensive apology on their Instagram story hours after the performance abruptly concluded.
Sam wrote to their “dearest mariners” (nickname for their fanbase): “I honestly don’t know what to say. A few weeks ago, I fought off a virus, and since then, we’ve traveled throughout Europe and performed spectacular performances.
“During soundcheck today, I felt great and was so thrilled to give Manchester an incredible performance tonight, complete with a special surprise.
“During my third tune, I noted that my voice was off. I hoped it was simply my voice waking up for the performance, but by the fourth song I realized something was seriously awry.
“Since leaving the stage, I have attempted everything to get my voice back in shape, but to no avail. I’m truly sorry I couldn’t complete the show for you all tonight.”
They concluded by saying, “I love you all, and I’m sorry, sorry, sorry.”
Sam is presently scheduled to perform in Glasgow on Thursday evening, with the tour’s final stop in Birmingham scheduled for Saturday.
